The man who fatally shot a tow truck driver late Tuesday night at an apartment complex in Brentwood is still on the run, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The victim, a repo truck driver, was reportedly attempting to repossess a vehicle when the confrontation turned deadly. Deputies arrived at the scene to find the driver suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the repossession and towing community in Jacksonville. Many drivers now say they are deeply concerned for their own safety while on the job. Repossession work often involves late-night hours, unfamiliar neighborhoods, and tense interactions with vehicle owners who may be angry or desperate. Drivers say they frequently face threats, but this shooting marks a tragic escalation.
"We go out there to do a job, not to start fights," one local repo driver told reporters. "Now we have to wonder if every call could be our last." The sheriff's office has not released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward. In the meantime, repo companies are reviewing their safety protocols, with some drivers considering carrying body cameras or working in pairs. The killing has reignited a broader conversation about the risks faced by workers in this often-overlooked industry.
