FBI raids home, business of Westfield estate developer

FBI raids home, business of Westfield estate developer

Federal agents executed search warrants this week at the residence and business offices of prominent estate developer Andy Card, escalating a probe that now includes a bid to seize his waterfront property in Florida. The U.S. Attorney's Office filed a civil forfeiture complaint seeking to take control of Card's coastal estate, alleging the property was purchased with proceeds from fraudulent financial schemes.

The raids, conducted by FBI personnel, involved the simultaneous search of Card's primary home and his corporate headquarters in Westfield. Sources familiar with the operation confirm agents seized computers, financial records, and real estate documents. Card has not been charged with a crime, but the civil forfeiture action signals the government's intent to permanently strip him of the Florida asset.

Court filings unsealed Thursday accuse Card of using shell companies and inflated appraisals to secure loans, then funneling the money into luxury real estate purchases. The waterfront property in question, a gated compound with direct ocean access, was acquired three years ago for an estimated $12 million. Prosecutors argue the transaction was part of a broader pattern of money laundering tied to a development project that collapsed, leaving investors with substantial losses.

Card's attorney released a statement calling the raids "an overreach" and vowed to fight the forfeiture. "Mr. Card has built a legitimate business over decades, and these allegations are baseless," the statement read. The investigation remains ongoing, with federal authorities expected to present evidence to a grand jury in the coming weeks.
