Local Businesses Invited to Learn How to Reach Hawaii's Visitors

Hawaii farmers, makers, small business owners, cultural practitioners and nonprofits that want to connect with visitors can now sign up for a series of workshops. The program, called Foundational Technical Assistance, is run by the Hawaii Tourism Authority and returns in 2026.

The sessions are designed for people who may not have much experience with marketing or tourism outreach. Organizers say the goal is to help local operators understand how the visitor industry works and how they can take part in it. That includes guidance on pitching products or experiences, working with hotels and tour companies, and telling authentic stories about their communities.

Each workshop covers practical topics such as building a simple business plan, pricing goods and services, and using basic digital tools to reach travelers. Participants will also learn about the standards and permits that apply to tourism-related activity in the islands.

The authority says the effort is part of a broader push to spread tourism's benefits beyond the usual hotspots. By giving smaller and community-based groups the skills to attract visitors, officials hope more money stays in local hands.

Space is limited, and interested parties are encouraged to register early. Dates and locations will be posted as they are confirmed.
