RMV to move Chicopee business services to Springfield

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is consolidating its business customer operations, moving those services from the Chicopee Service Center to the Springfield location. The change takes effect for all business-related transactions, including fleet registrations, dealer plate renewals, and commercial account updates.

According to RMV officials, the decision comes after a review of usage patterns and staffing needs across western Massachusetts. The Chicopee office will continue to handle standard driver's license and ID transactions, but customers needing business-specific help will now be directed to the Springfield facility on Liberty Street. The agency says the move will allow for more specialized staff and faster processing times for commercial clients, who often require more complex paperwork and longer appointment windows.

The RMV is notifying affected businesses directly by mail and email. Walk-in business services at Chicopee will end on the first of next month, while Springfield will begin accepting those transactions the same day. Appointments already booked at Chicopee for business work will be honored or transferred automatically, depending on the customer's preference. The agency advises business customers to check their appointment confirmations for any changes.

Local trucking and dealership groups have mixed reactions. Some say the Springfield office is easier to reach from the highway, while others worry about parking and wait times during peak hours. The RMV says it will monitor the transition closely and adjust staffing if lines become an issue. The Springfield center is open Monday through Friday, with extended hours on Wednesdays. No changes are planned for the RMV's other western Massachusetts locations, including the Greenfield and Pittsfield offices.
