A business-led marketing campaign and a new report from an economic-development group are challenging the idea that Colorado's business climate is in free fall, arguing that recent rankings telling a negative story miss much of what is actually happening across the state.
The pushback comes as Colorado has slipped in several national business rankings, a trend that has fueled headlines and concern among policymakers. Rather than accept that narrative, the groups behind the campaign and the report say the state still offers a strong foundation for companies looking to grow, and that a handful of index scores do not capture the full picture.
The marketing effort is aimed at shifting how Colorado is perceived by site selectors, executives, and investors. Organizers say the goal is not to dismiss legitimate challenges but to add context to a conversation that has become dominated by decline. The economic-development report takes a similar approach, pointing to the state's workforce, its concentration of technology and aerospace firms, and its quality of life as assets that remain attractive.
Both efforts acknowledge that affordability, housing costs, and a competitive national landscape are real issues. Still, they argue that treating Colorado as a state in retreat risks becoming a self-fulfilling story, one that could discourage the investment the state needs to address its problems. The campaign and report together amount to a coordinated attempt to reframe the debate around what Colorado can build on, not just what it has lost.
