CHICAGO -- A 19-year-old man from Crete, Illinois, is facing felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a child inside a business in the Portage Park neighborhood last week. Chicago police announced the charges on Monday, stating that the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The incident reportedly occurred in the bathroom of a business located in the 3900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue. Authorities say the victim is a minor, though they have not released the child's age or gender. The suspect, whose name has not been released pending his court appearance, was identified through an investigation that included witness interviews and review of surveillance footage.
Police responded to the scene on the afternoon of the alleged assault after receiving a call from the business. The suspect was arrested a short time later. He has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. He is currently being held at the Cook County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Chicago Police Department's Area Five detective division.
