The Five O'Clock Somewhere country music festival brought more than just live music to West Palm Beach this past weekend. Local business owners reported a significant uptick in sales as thousands of attendees flooded downtown streets. Restaurants, bars, and retail shops saw a steady stream of customers from Friday through Sunday, with many establishments running out of stock by Saturday evening.
The event, named after the popular Jimmy Buffett song, featured a lineup of country artists and drew visitors from across the state. Hotel occupancy rates in the area hit near capacity, and ride-sharing services reported a surge in demand. Several food vendors set up temporary stalls near the main stage, but it was the brick-and-mortar businesses that felt the most lasting impact.
"We had people waiting outside before we even opened," said one local cafe owner. "It felt like the whole city was here." Another boutique manager noted that many festival-goers bought souvenirs and clothing, items that typically see slow sales during the summer months. The influx of cash is a welcome relief for small businesses that have struggled with rising costs and slower tourist seasons in recent years.
City officials are already discussing plans to make the festival an annual event, citing the clear economic benefits. For now, local merchants are counting their receipts and hoping the momentum carries into the fall.
