A Texas man will spend the next several years in federal prison for orchestrating a $2.6 million fraud scheme that targeted a business in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Khalid Ahamad, 55, was sentenced on Wednesday to 70 months behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
According to court documents, Ahamad and his co-conspirators tricked the Fort Wayne company into wiring large sums of money to bank accounts they controlled. The scheme involved fake invoices and deceptive communications designed to make the payments look legitimate. The victim company only discovered the fraud after the money was gone and the accounts had been drained.
Federal prosecutors argued that Ahamad played a central role in setting up the fraudulent accounts and directing the flow of stolen funds. In addition to the prison sentence, a judge ordered him to pay full restitution of $2.6 million to the victim business. The case was investigated by the FBI and the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Ahamad had been living in Texas at the time of his arrest. His sentence reflects the serious financial harm caused to the company, which had to absorb the loss and deal with the disruption to its operations. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Indiana handled the prosecution.
