Alex Greenberg says the time he spent in China in his 20s shaped his social life, career, and the way he sees the world. After finishing college, Greenberg moved to China rather than jumping straight into a conventional job back home. What began as a leap into unfamiliar territory turned into a formative stretch of years that changed how he approaches both work and relationships.
Living abroad forced him to adapt quickly. He learned the language, built a network from scratch, and navigated a professional culture very different from the one he grew up in. Those experiences, he says, gave him a level of comfort with uncertainty that many of his peers did not develop until much later.
Now back in the United States, Greenberg is putting those lessons to work as he focuses on growing his career. He describes the return as less of a homecoming and more of a new beginning, one informed by the perspective he gained overseas. The friendships and connections he made in China remain central to his life, and he credits that period with teaching him how to read a room, build trust across cultural lines, and stay calm when plans fall apart.
For Greenberg, the move back is not a step away from his time in China but a way to carry it forward.
