Health Officials Issue Measles Exposure Warning for Wayne County Business

Wayne County Public Health confirmed that a person with a confirmed case of measles visited a local business earlier this month, prompting officials to alert residents who may have been in the same location during that time frame.

The exposure happened at a business in the county, though officials have not released the name of the establishment or the exact hours of the visit. Health department staff are working to identify anyone who may have come into contact with the infected person.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after the person has left the area. Symptoms usually appear seven to 14 days after exposure and include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that starts on the face and spreads downward.

Officials urge anyone who visited the business during the possible exposure window to check their vaccination status. People who have received two doses of the MMR vaccine are generally considered protected. Those who are unvaccinated, pregnant, or have weakened immune systems face a higher risk.

Anyone who develops symptoms should contact a doctor before going to a clinic or emergency room, so staff can take steps to prevent further spread. Health officials continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
