Juniors and seniors at Big Sky are getting an early introduction to the world of commerce through a two-year International Baccalaureate program that pushes them to think like business analysts. The course challenges students to examine real companies, break down business strategy and sharpen their critical thinking skills well before they set foot on a college campus.
Rather than relying on textbooks alone, the program asks students to dig into actual case studies and evaluate how organizations operate, compete and make decisions. That hands-on approach gives participants a clearer picture of what business study involves and helps them build analytical habits that carry over into other subjects.
Supporters of the program say the experience offers more than a preview of college coursework. Students learn to weigh evidence, question assumptions and present reasoned arguments, skills that apply far beyond the business world. For many juniors and seniors, the two-year commitment also provides a chance to test their interest in fields such as management, marketing and finance before choosing a major.
Educators involved describe the International Baccalaureate track as a demanding but rewarding option for students who want to stretch themselves. By working through complex, real-world scenarios, participants leave with a stronger foundation in strategy and a clearer sense of how businesses function in a competitive environment.
